What Is “Artificial Intelligence”?
There are kinds of “Artificial Intelligence” like “purely reactive, limited memory, theory of mind, and self-aware.” The kinds generally seen are purely reactive and limited memory. These are computers that have the ability to think closely to people. This works by processing data, which allows pattern understanding. The kind of “Artificial Intelligence” that is often known is “Generative Artificial Intelligence” that produces responses using data to predict what might be correct.
What Are Features?
Some of the beneficial features of artificial intelligence could include the ability to process data faster, reduced time spent doing something, and seeing details fast-paced.
There are many companies moving to supply artificial intelligence as there are growth opportunities. This includes Apple, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Meta.
Application Of “Artificial Intelligence” In Healthcare
The Healthcare System in The United States has faced significant issues going back, affecting both the quality of care and patient satisfaction. One pressing issue I will discuss is the communication of treatment with patients and the challenges surrounding time management in hospitals. Patients often experience long wait times to be seen in the Emergency Room, which can lead to heightened anxiety and frustration. Additionally, the process of getting discharged is frequently delayed, leaving patients feeling sidelined in their own care. These wait times not only hinder the flow of patients through the system but can also create a ripple effect, complicating the ability to accept new patients. Moreover, when existing patients remain in the hospital longer than necessary, it strains resources and staff, making it difficult for healthcare providers to manage their time effectively and prioritizing the needs of all patients in a timely manner. Improved communication strategies and streamlined discharge processes are essential to more efficient healthcare.
There are currently no applications of artificial intelligence I could find of this kind although there are others. The use of artificial intelligence in healthcare has increased recently in different places. This is applied in areas such as diagnosis, medical records, treatment, and communication. In communicative aspects, this has occasionally been used to simplify talking to patients by messaging personalized responses.
This issue of inefficiency could be reduced with the application of artificial intelligence to analyze patient records and discharge without having to see them before. Having programs that could process the records and supply the patient with the summary of diagnosis and give the opportunity for asking questions could allow the staff to continue other things instead of spending time explaining it to patients. This would possibly require monitoring and permission from staff and patients to discharge. It could allow staff more time and lower time patients spend waiting to discharge along with possibly lowering time spent to be inside.
What Issues Could Be There?
There are concerns that arise with this being involved. This could bring concerns of patient privacy with records. These could potentially get handled wrong if not monitored. According to Veradigm, the data could have “racial, ethnic, gender bias, etcetera”. This could evolve from the programming of data. There is possible misunderstanding the population recieving treatment if not programmed towards it.
Applying this in Healthcare would require monitoring of people in order to prevent the concerns mentioned. This would require patient consent to include data.
Overall, there are different applications of artificial intelligence in Healthcare that have arisen in records, treatment, communication, and diagnosis. This could be a beneficial technology in other places to improve efficiency. There are concerns with it that include privacy and bias. Having regulations with it could allow this to improve communication and reduce time discharging.
